In this article, we’re going to be covering Warhammer 40K Necrons lore and origins. The Silent King existed within the Necrontyr empire. The Necrontyr are an ancient race that carved a path towards an empire. They explored other stars’ worlds using their stasis crypts and torch-like ships. Previously we have covered the lore for other armies like Space Wolves.

Warhammer 40K Necrons Lore – The beginning.

Necrontyr dynasties were overseen by the Triarch – the dynasty’s ruling committee. Composed of three formidable Overlords known as the Phaeron. The Silent King is the Triarch’s head. The Silent King governs with the help of the other two Phaerons. Szarekh is the last Silent King.

The Necrontyr encountered a species known as the “Old Ones.” The Old Ones are an advanced reptilian species. The Old Ones also possessed immortality and “mystics.” This intergalactic empire was the original developer of the Webway. They denied sharing this knowledge with the Necrontyr race.

As they grew their territories civil wars began to surface within their rule. The Phaerons of Triarch understood that they could regain harmony if they united under a common enemy.

The Triarch realized that the Old Ones were the best scapegoat to unify their race. The Triarch proclaimed war against The Old Ones. This was done in response to The Old Ones refusing to share their eternal life secrets.

Warhammer 40K Necrons Lore – The War in Heaven.

The “War in Heaven” was a ruinous conflict that arose between the Necrontyr and the Old Ones. This war took place 60 million years before the 41st Millennium. The Old Ones exhibited technological superiority. The mystics used the power of the Warp Gates and Webway portals. Necrontyr’s powers were inferior. And they suffered a short natural life span from their radioactive homeworld. Decades after, innumerable Necrontyr dynasties died due to their war against the Old Ones.

Wars of Secession happened as the second War in Heaven began. This destroyed various Necrontyr dynasties. The Triarch tried to reinstate order through efforts and prayers.

Warhammer 40K Necrons Lore – The C’tan.

The Necrontyr searched for powers among different galaxies to defeat the Old Ones. While they were navigating, they realized that the most potent weapon they could attain was the C’tan. C’tan power was beyond imagination. The “Deceiver,” a C’tan Star God, helped the Necrontyr with their war against the Old Ones.

The C’tan pledged their alliance with the Necrontyr to achieve glory. The C’tan offered immortality to the Necrontyr through biotransference. The flesh of the Necrontyr became replaced with metal-like necrodermis. Szarekh realized he brought his race into a wrong and uncertain path shortly after.

The Necrontyr had become Necrons.

The process that changed the Necrontyr into Necrons was a decoy of C’tan to enslave the Necrontyr.

They became cursed as servants of C’tan.

Warhammer 40K Necrons Lore

The Necrons finally won the war after they gained access to the Webway. After the War in Heaven, both the Necrons and C’tan dominated the galaxy.

Since the Silent King Szarekh knew that the C’tan originally planned to deceive the Necrons, he led his race to revolt against C’tan. This uprising caused millions of dead Necrons. All this in pursuit of their sovereign rule.

It cost a terrible price. Szarekh ordered his people to rebuild their empire and restore their glory after undergoing the Great Sleep. A 60 million year hibernation.

Warhammer 40K Necrons Lore – The Great Awakening.

Warhammer 40K Necrons Lore

The Great Awakening took place in the early years of the 41st Millennium.

During the Emperor of Mankind’s Great Crusade, the first Tomb World awoke in the galaxy. Some Necrons were also awakened during the Nova Terra Interregum in the 34th Millennium. Some also emerged during the Apostles of the Blind King in 550.M37.
