The London GT Warhammer 40k Top Lists

At The London GT Warhammer 40k tournament nearly 600 people decided to come out and play for chance to prove who is best. After 7 rounds Admech stood above all others. The top cut was just the top 4 undefeated players after 5 rounds. That left plenty of undefeated lists but folks lacking in points didn’t get a chance to prove their mettle.

Regardless the top 4 list can generate points and definitely deserved to be there. Congratulations to Malik Amin Rubio and his Admech Soup list.

The 3 detachments here take advantage of 3 big things. First the two Mars detachments allow for 4 flyers and the hit rerolls. Since the army as a whole is admech, the Mars detachments will also have Canticles along with Doctrina. Defensively if this list goes second, the flyers can be at a 2+ save and in light cover. The Mars reroll to hit also helps counteract the loss of core on the Laser chickens.

Lucius brings durable infantry with the transhuman warlord trait ignore ap-1 and 2 along with light cover as well. In case they have to sit on an objective in the open. And if they are out and about, the list uses multitasking cortex to allow that same infantry to do an action and still shoot.

Furthermore, the teleport relic allows for extra movement and a great tool to deal with no fall back shenanigans from armies like Drukhari. If the infantry can fall back, one of Malik’s Lucius infantry can still shoot due to programmed retreat.

The London Grand Tournament 2nd place list Alex Harrison – Deathwatch

the london gt warhammer 40k 2nd place winning list
The Deathwatch by terraluna5

Alex’s London GT list still shows the relic stormshield but that’s replaced by the Dominus Aegis. Essentially giving up a 4+++ ignore mortals ability for the bearer in exchange for a 5++ invulnerable save fore core units near the bearer. Specifically the Redemptor Dreads.

Lately this has become fairly standard tactic for deathwatch. The tech marines also add +1 to hit to a Dreadnought in this list as well as repair the already reduced damage taken by the dreads. So clearly this list will hit hard with reroll 1s to wounds built into it and captain rerolls.

To make the Dakka better relics and warlord traits were taken just for that. The Tome of Ectolades will allow full rerolls to wound versus one particular datasheet. The other relic, Vhorkan-Pattern Auspicator is a +1 to hit aura versus fly. Sorry Drukhari and ork Airwings. Warlord trait wise, Nowhere to Hide removes the benefits of cover to the saving throws. Effectively ignoring light and heavy cover. This is often mistakenly applied to dense cover but Dense cover does affecting saving throws and is not ignored in this case.

Furthermore because of the low AP of 0 on the Volkite weapons this is an important aura to have. However, Deathwatch find it easy to be in Devastator doctrine. First is the other Warlord trait from the Dark Angels, Brilliant Stategist. Secondly for 1 CP there is a Deathwatch Stratagem to place one unit in a different doctrine. Thirdly, Space Marines can put a unit in all doctrines for 2 CP. Finally, Deathwatch can choose the order of their doctrines. Pretty good to place the whole army into Devastator doctrine round 2 depending on how well your army is hidden.

Round 1 Tactical doctrine can make use of the volume of fire from 3 veteran squad worth of Frag Cannons. Especially when 8 Frag cannons can fit into the drop pod to get close enough as early as turn 1. Overall this is a low model count army but with rights of war for the additional Objective Secured can make up for this. The Characters can push forward fairly safely if the bodyguards can stay hidden. This list was prepared for a similar play from Opponents. This is where the Sicaran Arcus can shine with 2d6 shots at strength 6 AP-1 damage 2 ignoring line of sight.

A hard list fight against but well played Alex.

The London Grand Tournament 3rd place list David Horn – Deathguard

the london gt 2nd place death guard
Death Guard by htkpeh

The other list Malik had to climb past on his way to the top was a tough Deathguard list. As an Army of Renown this army has access to a few bonus stratagems. Particularly, bringing back more Pox Walkers.

While the Poxwalkers aren’t too hard to kill when there’s effectively 117 of them at least, they are going to be all over the board. With their ability to regenerate models, they can move forward with placement allowing objectives to be taken as scoring those objectives is at the end of the command phase.

However, all those bodies are just one part of the problem. The rest coming from the psykers and 3 units of Blightlord Terminators and 2 other units of Deathshroud Terminators. They may seem slow hoofing it across the board but they ignore movement penalties and eventually will make it. Unless of course, they are placed into teleport assault.

Clearly a difficult list to beat. Congratulations.
