This was a secondary event at the Coventry GT Warhammer 40k.
Pro: it was a 2 day event.
Con: there were multiple undefeated.
That being said all 3 of the winning lists were clearly mean lists as 85 other players lost along the way. Another Perk is that none of these lists are buggy spam remind folks that there are other great armies available.
Now, let’s dive into round two of The Coventry GT Warhammer 40k 5 Round Major!
The Coventry GT Warhammer 40k 1st place David Gaylard – Admech
David Brought a mixed admech list using Lucius and Mars. Lucius Infantry bricks are hard to shift. Programmed Retreat will allow them to fall back and shoot. If they can’t fall back for various reasons, they could just use Solar Flare. Another perk of the large squads is how they ignore cover which is great when fighting into Grey Knights and their Tide of Shadows.
The other two detachments burn into the Command Point pool a bit but that’s okay as the Mars detachments have innate rerolls to hit. Making the Stratoraptors even more fearsome. The lone Engineseer can be used to Awaken the Machine Spirits for a bonus to hit and to affect some light repairs to the Mars vehicles.

The Coventry GT 2nd place Martyn Cooper – Drukhari
This list makes use of Blackstone fortress Ur Ghul units. These are single model infantry units that do not take up a force org slot. They are pretty nifty in that regard as they can do actions and are cheap. So they can Play the mission. The double Trueborn units, while always great, are particularly useful at countering ork buggy spam in the current meta. Otherwise, there are plenty of hard hitting Dark Lances and a pair of Cult of Strife Succubuses to clear the board.

The Coventry GT 3rd place Ollie Atthewheel – Thousand Sons
Congratulations to Ollie bringing the Thousand Sons and making it to the Podium. Unfortunately, while Ollie did go undefeated he came up a bit short in points with back to back matchups into Grey Knights. Regardless, this is an army that can deal a lot of mortal wounds in the psychic phase with 15 Cabal Points built into the army.
What can be devastating is the relic Egleighen’s Orrery which will work on the Contemptor Dreadnought. Usually in the Dreadnought on Dreadnought match up, Volkite doesn’t do all that much. However, using that relic to prevent changing the damage characteristic of the Volkite. Perfect to counter Dreadnoughts, Ramshackle and Chaff Launchers on Adeptus Mechanicus Flyers. The other perk is ignoring those penalties to hit.
While there is only one Contemptor to take advantage of that relic, there is the large 10 man Scarab unit to do the same but also in melee.
