Today we bring you the Flying Monkey Con Winning Lists for the Warhammer 40k tournament. Held in Wichita, Kansas this was another successful Warhammer 40k Major GT with 85 attendees. To address submarining at Flying Monkey Con, the practice of deliberately scoring lower to avoid tougher matches, the event had random pairings rounds 1-3. Granted winners still had to take on winners but this was to encourage folks to get the highest scores they could.
New Orks were allowed at Flying Monkey Con and were even playing at the top table but fell to Drukhari for a not unfamiliar spread of Drukhari, Admech, and more Drukhari.

Flying Monkey Con Winning List 1st Place!
First Place at Flying Monkey Con went to Matt Root. He is no stranger to the top of Flying Monkey Con and brought a list to take him there. Notice how the transports are all Dark Techonomancers? This is in order for the Dark Lances to benefit from the All Consuming Coven. Specifically a +1 to hit and +1 to wound. This will cause the lances to wound anything less tough than a Knight on a 2+. With Damage 4+D3 weapons at AP-4. To counter Admech blobs or other hordes, the Cronos Spirit Vortexes bring lots of blast and can also benefit from the Coven Trait. Unfortunately, Lightning Reflexes won’t work on these units as they are coven.
Warhammer 40k First Place List Review
Furthermore, this list counters Admech chicken walkers with +2 movement on the Reaver Jetbikes for 20” moves. The 60 point unit is more than fast enough to tag Ironstriders, due to loss of core on these units. Along with the means to turn off overwatch and prevent units from falling back Mr Root can lock down shooting armies easily by turn 2. Congrats to Matt.

Flying Monkey Con Winning List 2nd Place!
Coming in Second place was another Matt. Matt Evans with the dreaded 6 Admech Flyers list. Running this army requires 3 detachments in order to take all the flyers and the cheapest way to do that CP wise is to do a triple patrol. Mars takes the loss of that CP fairly well with an innate reroll to hit. Furthermore, they can benefit from Canticles such as Benediction of the Omnisiah for offense, or Shroudpsalm for defense depending on the go first roll off.
Warhammer 40k Winning List 2nd Place Review
There are two ways to fall back and shoot but neither will be needed for all the Aircraft. The Aircraft all have command Uplinks, this saves 120 points. Obviously the Stratoraptor is a gun ship and is scary with the rerolls and Damage 3+D3 Lascannons but the Fusilaves are also deadly. Imagine they fly over a squad of 2 vehicles. That’s 10 chances to do a mortal wound on a 4+ easily countering other Adeptus Mechanicus. Or perhaps you see a Raider with Cult of Strife Blood Brides. With the mid-move turn with the flyers easily all 3 can pass over that raider with the goal of opening the transports with 6 chances at a mortal wound a 4+ each. Once the transport pops you can get to the juicy insides.
Overall the list is fast enough to play Engage on all Fronts and/or do Retrieve Octarius Data. And the flyers can make up for the lack of Data Tethers on the squads. Going undefeated 6 rounds prove this.

Flying Monkey Con Winning List 3rd Place
Drukhari, rounded out the Top 3 with Charlie Andre’s army. Like most of the Drukhari players he opted for the Obsidian Rose. The 6” Additional range and re-roll of one wound combined with the speed of the Raiders makes it hard not to choose this Kabal. Considering the Blasters are now 24” range that’s why you’ll see it along with other Drukhari staples. You know, the Cult of Strife Succubus, Wyches and at least 3 patrols that don’t cost Command points. All with enough transports to give their units a ride. So you need a plan when going to events to face Drukharii and Admech.
Warhammer 40k Winning List 3rd Place Review
One other reason they are so good is their secondaries. Herd the prey will punish you for castling far from them, but they are more than fast enough for engage on all fronts. That also leans into them doing Retrieve Octarius Data for an easy 12 points. Charlies, army makes use of raiders melee potential.
One weakness of this type of list, are how easily they give up Grind Them Down points or how they can lose their characters acting as missiles.
