What We Know About Codex: Space Marines New Units

Today the Space Marines are getting details some of the new units they can expect to use with their new codex. They also got some more new abilities to use and new weapons to fight with. Let’s take a look.

Incursor Squad

The Incursors are the alternate units you can build from the Infiltrator kit. These units are equipped with occulus bolt carbines that deny cover to the enemy. They also have multi-spectrum arrays that prevent negative shooting modifiers from affecting them. So if you’re going against lots of scout or stealth type units these look like the unit to take.
There’s even more to the Incursors as they have paired combat blades that should help them out in close combat.
Plus they have smoke grenades and can infiltrate like Infiltrators. But that’s not all, they also have haywire mines. If an enemy model moves over them they suffer D3 mortal wounds or D3+1 if it’s a vehicle. With a bunch of minimum sized units you could have an actual minefield protecting your lines.

Impulsor

Next up is the Impulsor which is a transport with some firepower. Able to transport six models is pretty great. Especially combined with its Assault Vehicle ability:
This will catch quite a few opponents off guard. But also you can equip the Impulsor with a 4+ invulnerable save. Or if you want maximum firepower. You can take a bellicatus missile array instead which comes with frag, krak and Icarus missiles. Or or you could take an Orbital Comms Array which allows you to call down an orbital bombardment.
All of these options for the Impulsor are sure to make it a popular option on the tabletop.

Invictor Tactical Warsuit

The Invictor Tacical Warsuit is the stripped down and lighter version of a Redemptor Dreadnought. It can infiltrate with your squads of Infiltrators and Incursors. It also has its hard-hitting Invictor fist and a choice of either the Incendium Cannon flamethrowers or the Twin Ironhail Autocannon for long range decimation:
But the best weapon on the Invictor isn’t the big primary gun or the fist. But the pistolized heavy bolter strapped to its waist, which works even at close range!
The Invictor Tactical Warsuit brings the support for your advanced scouting forces. It isn’t too hard on the eye either.

Infiltrator Squad

First up for the new gear and abilities for units that are already out is the Infiltrator squad. With the new codex instead of using a Helix Adept you can have equip a member of your squad with a Infiltrator comms array.
This ability is huge. Allowing your unit to be where it needs to be without worrying about the positioning for your aura.

Eliminator Squad

Eliminators can now target characters with all three of their bolt sniper rifles’ ammo types and they all fire at strength 5 now. But instead of the bolt snipers they can be assembled with Las Fusils.
These will allow those Eliminators to really eliminate some tanks. Plus the sergeant can either use the Guided aim ability or the Covering Fire ability. The Guided Aim ability adds one to hit and wound rolls if the Sergeant doesn’t fire. Whereas the Covering Fire ability allows the unit to fall back after firing Overwatch. But only if the sergeant has an instigator bolt carbine.

Non-codex Chapters

Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Dark Angels with the new codex will be able to use the following units.

· Captain in Phobos Armour

· Librarian in Phobos Armour

· Lieutenant in Phobos Armour

· Eliminator Squad

· Incursor Squad

· Infiltrator Squad

· Suppressor Squad

· Invictor Tactical Warsuit

· Impulsor

· Primaris Repulsor Executioner

This should give the less codex compliant Space Marines a lot of new tools to add to their arsenal.

Angels of Death: Combat Doctrines

Combat Doctrines are the latest piece of the Angels of Death ability. Which is the overarching name for the army abilities of the Space Marines. Combat Doctrines add some flexibility to your army. With you starting off first turn with the Devastator Doctrine active. Then at the start of later turns you can change to either the Tactical or Assault Doctrine. Or even just stay Devastator.
These abilities are going to make specialist Space Marines more deadly than before. Granting that extra AP to a most likely already healthy dose.

In Conclusion

Between the new infiltration units and the upgrades to already existing ones. Space Marines look to be forming into quite the dynamic force. The new Codex: Space Marines has lots more info to share. It will not be long before we can start seeing it at the game table.
