With the release of the latest Magic: The Gathering set, Guilds of Ravnica, only a few weeks away, players everywhere are gearing up for all of the new cards and mechanics that will be introduced!
Using the spoilers released by Wizards of the Coast over the past few weeks, as well as the deck-building guidance of the fantastic staff at Pat’s Games, we’re showcasing two brand-new decks making use of key Guilds of Ravnica cards!
They’ll be piloted by Aaron and Aren, two veteran players, who will be putting their skills to the test to see who can adapt to the newest elements and lead their forces to victory!
Aren: Boros Legion Warboss/Goblin Banneret
Aren’s deck is a R/W deck which is built around mentor, an all-new keyword in the Guilds of Ravnica set. Whenever a creature with Mentor attacks, it adds a +1/+1 buff to one of its less powerful comrades also on the field. With the right timing and power stacking, this means that low-power, low-cost units can become extremely powerful. Between Goblin Banneret, Sunhome Stalwart, and the Legion Warboss all giving mentor buffs in addition to their own personal abilities (such as Goblin Banneret’s ability to buff itself and take even more creatures under its wing,) Aren will be able to quickly power up his low-cost monsters such as Goblin Motivator and Rigging Runner, whose rapid-fire attacks may allow him to beat down his opponent before he can muster a counterattack!
