Beachhead Brawl 2022 was the first Major Warhammer 40k tournament of the latest Chapter Approved, the new season of the ITC and the Seasons GW has initiated as well. The new T’au Codex for Warhammer 40k 9th edition and points drops for Custodes saw them hit the season running. Six Custodes Armies placing in the top 10 and two T’au players going undefeated after 7 rounds. Take the hint and prepare for the new competitive overlords in the Meta.
Tournament Name: Beachhead Brawl
Location: Bournemouth International Centre
Date: Saturday and Sunday, Feb 12th and 13th 2022
One thing to take note of is new list building requirements and having to share the chosen keywords. This makes some armies simpler to make but still leave plenty of options.
Beachhead Brawl 1st place Alex Harrison – T’au Sept
Alex Harrison took advantage of the easy rerolls to hit or wound, cheap troops that can scout ahead and the new profiles that hit much harder than before at the Bournemouth International Centre this weekend. Mainly lots and lots of shots that can ignore line of sight and cover. This list is ready for too much line of sight blocking terrain and will punish anybody on a table with not enough via the various railguns. T’au are clearly back on top as the kings of the shooting phase. If the plethora of ap-1 ignoring cover can somehow be tanked there are quality shots to be found with the various suit weapons covering that weakness.
They will be fairly tough with the Iridium battle suit having a feel no pain as well on one of them. The vespid brings innate deepstrike, action monkeys with decent shooting as well.
Congratulations to Alex Harrison on placing first with T’au at Bournemouth.

Second place Vik Vijay – Tau
Taking advantage of the Precision of the Hunter, Vik took a murderous Cold Star Commander to help clear chaff and used Crisis battlesuits for their elite clearing at the tournament this weekend at Bournemouth. It’s unknown how the Homing Beacons were ruled. While they do say turn 1 arrival for reserves, unlike the Space Marine Drop Pod, Homing beacons aren’t stated to ignore missions rules.
Regardless the army has the rerolls for days and decent weapons to just cut through the opponents.Rerolls to hit? Check. Rerolls to wound? Check. Rerolls for characters? Check. Congratulations on going undefeated after 7 rounds and placing 2nd at Bournemouth.

Commander Shadowsun Warlord:
Beachhead Brawl 3rd place Ben Jones – Custodes
Ben Jones led the Pack of Custodes players that placed in the top 10. There are a couple of things going on with Ben’s List. First you will notice Kyria Draxus in the list as she is the means to give out a fight last against your opponent. She is a fail safe against C’tan and of course can do the new Mental interrogation Psychic Action. She also allows for a third source of Reroll 1’s to hit but that shouldn’t really be needed with both Trajan and a Captain-Commander.
The not Warlord of the captain commander is rerolling 1’s to hit and wound for himself which is great on spear that has a +1 to wound. Combined with auric exemplar for up to 4 bonus attacks you can reliably expect 10 attacks from the spear and 1 extra from Misericordia. Castellan’s mark allows for deployment and reserve manipulation making the army fairly versatile on the attack and defense. Furthermore, the army can choose a unit to be in a different shield host to gather their traits.
To make best use of the innate rerolls of the army, there are big guns with the Salvo Launchers and Telemons which is important for them especially as they lack Core. (And leadership 11 for some reason)
Congratulations on placing third after 7 rounds and the First Major outing for Custodes. Clearly a mean list that almost made it to the top.
