We at Nights just finished watching the new preview and reveals from Games Workshop Online and Its a good one! So, The Corona Virus may have shut down Adepticon and any juicy reveal that would have been previewed. However, Games Workshop still came through with a host of new models and Reveals.
Preview and Reveals for Psychic Awakening
Games Workshop just announced the preview and reveals for the new Psychic Awakening book, “War of The Spider”. Some of them are factions that are due for an update like Custodes and Death Guard, but a few of these are quite a surprise. So, without further adieu lets dive into the reveals.
Custodes
First off, these guys were definitely due for an update, seeing as they have a very limited selection of units. So this preview is very exciting. Also, as what is easily the most elite faction in the game (aside from knights) they suffered when played as a solo army. Often times lacking both the model count, CP, and durability to be taken on their own. Sure, they were often seen in imperial soup lists, but otherwise rarely saw play as a standalone army. Hopefully, Games Workshop will be able to turn that around, with some new warlord traits, sub-factions, and Strategems. Personally, I would like to see them get some special rules similar to what Space Marines and Grey Knights got. Even if it simply rewarded you with extra command points for playing a pure Custodes army. Which is something they usually have a hard time accumulating on their own.
Imperial Assassins
So, I imagine this one will be interesting. The Imperial Assasins did get an update in an issue of white dwarf so imagine those rules will make it into this book as well. However, I expect there may be a bunch of new rules for them as well. Most likely these will be new stratagems, but I would personally enjoy seeing some form of relics or special wargear options. This one is a wildcard, but it is nonetheless very exciting.
Sisters of Silence
Wow, talk about a surprise, this one came out of nowhere. The Sisters of Silence are a faction that features only two units, Sisters of silence and Rhinos. This means they have no actual HQ choice and have to be mixed into a soup detachment. Resulting in them being an absolute rarity on the game table. Honestly, I had all but forgotten that they existed in the first place. Now, they haven’t revealed any new models for them and I am not sure they will even get new minis. However, they could easily give them rules that could allow them to fit into any imperial army like inquisitors. As a result, you would be able to take them in imperial armies without having to give up a detachments Subfaction rules. Also, giving them some Stratagems to pull from would give them a significant edge.
Death Guard
Meanwhile, it looks like the Death Guard will also be getting a nice rules update as well. Games Workshop has said they would e getting rules for The 7 Plague Companies of the Death Guard. Additionally, we can likely expect new Strategems, Warlord Traits, and for the Servants of Nurgle. This would likely be similar to the Update that Thousand Sons received, but less focused on Psychic Powers. Hopefully, the Different Plague Companies will offer some new passive buffs for the Death Guard so we can see a greater variety in Army lists. The Death Guard also has a fantastic range of miniatures and I’m looking forward to getting mine on the table again.
Agents of Bile
Last but not least we have what was probably the biggest surprise form the announcement. We are getting an all-new Subfaction just for Fabius Bile, and I couldn’t be more excited. Bile has been in the Lore for a while now and has been skulking around behind the scenes for as long as I can remember. Granted, he has a model and rules for bringing him in an army, but he was always the odd one out. As such, you never see him in people’s armies unless it was for a narrative or just for fun.
However, that’s all going to change, as he is getting a Sub-Faction all to himself. At long last, we will be able to bring him in a CSM army that tailors to his lore and rules. I’m beyond excited about this, as I also happen to have an army themed around him. However, that’s not all that was revealed for Bile.
Fabulous Bile
Now, its worth meaning that the headline on that was entirely intentional. Mainly because Fabius is getting a new model that lives up to his nickname “Fabulous Bill”. So check out this preview of his new model.
This new model looks amazing, and I can hardly wait to get my hands on it. Also, I love how they managed to make him still look old and grizzled but in a good way. Additionally, he looks like he’s gotten a fair bit taller in order to bring him in line with the newer Chaos Space Marine kits, which is great. Personally, I think they have done a great job at updating his miniature and I’m looking forward to finally putting him on the table. Lastly, I had previously covered the Fabius Bile teaser in an article that is worth checking out.
Hammer and Bolter: Death’s Hand Preview
The last preview is”Hammer and Bolter: Death’s Hand”.This will certainly be an exciting foray into the Grim Darkness of the 42nd Millenium. There is no shortage of the types of stories they could tell. Namely, because 40k has one of the deepest setting in all of fiction, with decades of material to pull from. So, it suffices to say that I’m really looking forward to seeing 40k on the big screen.
In Conclusion
Well, that will wrap up our overview of the Games Workshop previews. I have to say, this one was particularly good in my honest opinion. Also, it’s worth mentioning that Chaos already had a boost in Faith and Fury so why not check out some of those revealed rules?
